After serving the US Air Force as a language analyst for 11 years, he decided to pursue a career in art, graduating from Otis College of Art and Design in 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. His optical art includes tape installations, painted murals such as digital art. The main focus of his works is the optical and spatial perception. For that he uses lines to shape and bend the perceived dimensions of a surface or a space.

AN ARTWORK CREATED FO X4 SUMMIT
Darel Carey forms with simple lines, complex shapes and spaces. In order to use the most simplicity to extract the clearest complexity, he keeps certain characteristics of the lines consistent within each of his works, like the straightness of all the lines he uses. As a whole they form something more complex than what they are individually. That is why Darel Carey considers the organic process of creating these works as integral to what they become. The process itself reflects patterns of nature, like the beginning of the universe or biological life.
